Many such injuries involve a blow or jolt to the head or body. Often, there will be positive MRIs or CT scans that will show bruising or bleeding on the brain. These will be immediately treated in the hospital and followed closely afterwards.

Just as often, however, the studies may be negative, but there still will be physical symptoms of a brain injury such as headache, nausea or vomiting, fatigue or drowsiness, problems with speech, and dizziness or loss of balance. There might also be sensory problems such as blurred vision, ringing in the ears, or changes in the ability to smell or perceive light or sound. Memory or concentration problems along with mood swings can occur as well.
